For over 7 years, Tony was a Managing Partner at Fanisi Capital, a Private Equity Fund Manager where he managed 2 funds with a combined size of US$78.7 million, investing in SME opportunities across several sectors in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

As the first CEO of two of East & Central Africa’s largest investment holding and private equity firms ‐ Centum Investment Company (then known as ICDC Investment Company), and Trans‐Century Limited ‐ he built their management teams, corporate governance and operational structures and systems from inception, and was a key player in formulating, executing strategic plans. Tony has also led in the structuring, negotiation, acquisition, and exit of several private equity investments in East, Central, and South Africa.

In his earlier career, Tony served as Resident Vice President, Corporate Finance at Citibank NA, and as a management consultant at Price Waterhouse. He graduated from Wye College, University of London, UK (later merged with Imperial College) with a BSc. Agricultural Economics and from Georgetown University, USA with an MBA.

Tony has also served on several boards in the agribusiness, information technology, healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, banking, venture capital, insurance, reinsurance, and serviced office sectors in East and South Africa. He is the author of the first-ever authoritative book on investment groups in Kenya – CHAMA TO CONGLOMERATE: REINVENTING THE INVESTMENT GROUP. Published in 2012, the book explores the national phenomenon of group investing, and the opportunity to transform informal investment clubs into successful formalized investment holding companies by changing mindsets and attitudes and leveraging on the power and dynamics inherent in group investing. The 2nd updated edition of the book (with a slightly different title) – THE INVESTMENT GROUP HANDBOOK: CHAMA TO CONGLOMERATE, was published in February 2020.
