BRAC started microfinance in Uganda in 2006, as a part of BRAC Uganda’s social development programmes. It transformed into a Tier 2 Credit Institution to become BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd in 2019.
BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd has the largest network of banking services in the country, providing inclusive financial services for low-income communities to build sustainable livelihoods.
At Brac Uganda Limited, we employ about 1900 staff of which 82% are women. Our mission is not just to help women, but also to walk the talk.
From the 165,000 borrowers we have, 65% of them are women under a grouping lending methodology, where individuals get loans to finance small-scale businesses which have accumulated small profits hence promoting growth.
By 2027, we plan to reach 300,000 borrowers with 95% from rural areas, in a bid to bring about financial resilience in Uganda
